Overview
The Fuzz Works 7 is based on ZVEX EFFECTS Fuzz Factory 7. It features a 9-position rotary sub switch that opens the pedal up to an astounding new bottom end as well as thin, reedy fuzzes. The fuzz works equally well with both guitar and bass signals.
There’s also a second stomp switch and an associated tone control. This passive tone control operates much like the one on your guitar, and when the stomp switch is activated, it will let you roll off the high end of the fuzz sound to mellow out the tone if you like.
The controls of the Fuzz Works 7 are arranged in a circle around a Lexan window that reveals two rare germanium transistors, individually hand-tested for the perfect gain range and low leakage. These transistors are illuminated by LEDs when the pedal is engaged.
Controls
-
KNOBS: Although the six main control knobs are named for the parameters they influence, they actually control various operating levels and biases to create a personalized fuzz.
-
COMP: Adds attack characteristic when turned to the left, which gets softer to the right and suddenly pinches tone when all the way right. It can also tune in fat feedbacky fuzz.
-
DRIVE: Increases distortion when used as a "normal" fuzz and adjusts feedback pitch and tonal thickness. This control becomes meaningless when COMP is fully to the right.
-
STAB: Best used fully to the right. Avoid adjusting below 2:00 unless a softer, squishy fuzz is desired. This control also influences feedback pitch.
-
FAT: A nine-position rotary switch controlling the internal tone of the fuzz, ranging from fatter and subbier (left) to thinner and reedier (right). It changes the oscillation range of the pedal based on the other knob settings.
-
TONE: Activated by the left stomp switch, this passive tone control mellows out the high end of the Fuzz Works 7, similar to a low-pass filter.
-
VOLUME: Controls output volume.
-
GATE: Squelches noise after sustain ends. Turning to the right eliminates squeals, hiss, and buzz, while turning left opens the gate.
Warning
Many "incorrect" settings on this pedal may squeal, which could annoy some users. Follow the example settings to avoid issues. Remember to memorize or write down your favorite settings.
